General Germany called on the North Atlantic Alliance to prepare for a possible attack by the Russian Federation.
NATO countries should be forced to increase defense capacities to be prepared for the Russian armed attacks for the next four years. This was announced on Sunday by the head of the General Armed Forces of Germany, General Karstten Broier, the BBC reported.
Generally, the Russian Federation year -people produce nearly 1,500 major battle tanks and actively develop new military units dedicated to confrontation with the West.
“Not all tanks come up front to Ukraine. Some of them enter the reserve and new structures taught against NATO,” he explained.
He also noted that in 2024, Russia created four million 152-mm artillery, which only part was intended for war against Ukraine. The general warned that the Russian Federation had accumulated ammunition for a possible attack on Baltic countries.
“Analysts indicate a possible threat in 2029. But there is no guarantee that this will not happen before. We must be prepared for the battle today,” Broier emphasized.
In his opinion, the most vulnerable zone remains suvalsky corridor – a narrow stripe between Poland and Lithuania, which borders the region of Kaliningrad of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
“When you are in Baltic, you really feel tightened. Estonians say they can see the fire and hear the smell of smoke,” the general added.
Broier emphasized that Kremlin sees the war in Ukraine as part of a broader conflict with NATO, which tries to defend the west for attacking underwater cables in the Baltic Sea, cyber attacks on infrastructure and exploration flight of drones to EU territory.
“Time has come to act. Every NATO country must increase defense investments to strengthen the restraint and protect itself,” the German general called.
Great Britain will spend 3% of GDP defense until 2034
