The UK plans to buy fighters that can bring tactical nuclear weapons to the outline of a large -scale expanding restraint.
Great Britain has begun negotiations with the United States with the purchase of F-35A fighters, capable of carrying B61-12 thermonuclear bombs. The Sunday Times reported it.
Earlier, London ordered 48 F-35B warriors in the United States for its aircraft. The new F-35A has a large flight range (up to 1400 km) and will be able to act on conflicts of a smaller size or even without declaring a whole war.
The Kira Starmer government is already conducting confidential negotiations with a potential aircraft purchase that can launch low -power nuclear bombs. It can be the most radical change in the British nuclear deterrence system from the Cold War. London has admitted that the world is part of a new, more dangerous nuclear period.
Defense Minister John Gilly, along with commander -in -chief of armed forces Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, promotes the idea of buying American warriors. Starmer has already approved this plan, and negotiations with the Pentagon, according to resources, has taken place.
It is expected that on Monday the Prime Minister will present a strategic overall -defense policy on one of the naval shipyards. Although the document does not contain a direct mention of new aviation capabilities, he recommends to consider Great Britain’s participation in expanding the NATO joint nuclear program in Europe.
The defense minister refused to comment on the course of negotiations, but recognized the need to adapt to new challenges.
“The Ukraine lesson is that the country’s armed forces are as strong as the industry standing behind them is strong,” Gilly explained.
Earlier, the UK temporarily reduced the number of strategic submarines to three. One of the four bearers of the Trident II D5 Intercontinental Missiles – the HMS successful submarine – went into a deep modernization.
Great Britain will spend 3% of GDP defense until 2034
