States must ensure that sanctioned goods in transit do not enter the EU.

On July 22, Lithuanian Railways (LTG Cargo) resumed the transfer of goods included in the EU sanctions list to the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. This is what railway representative Mantas Dubauskas said, DW reports.

According to him, the European Commission has given an explanation that the transit of sanctioned goods by train is allowed, but road transport remains prohibited.

Remember, on July 13, the EC published additional instructions for EU member states on the transit of goods from the Russian Federation, where it allowed the movement of certain sanctioned goods in the Kaliningrad region by rail . Member States can control transit volumes based on the average of the past three years, as well as limit “unusual flows of goods or trade patterns.”

As for the transfer of sanctioned goods and technology for military and dual use, it is absolutely prohibited in any case, regardless of the mode of transportation.

Also, states must ensure that permitted goods in transit do not enter the EU.

It was previously reported that Lithuania has expressed its willingness to comply with EC principles on transit to Kaliningrad.

Recall that the Lithuanian authorities have extended travel restrictions to the Kaliningrad region.
