German defense ministers Boris Pistorius and Ukraine Rustem Umarov have signed a Berlin agreement on funding long weapons of Ukrainian production.
Vladimir Zelensky visited Berlin on Wednesday, May 28. The German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, following a meeting with Zelensky, announced the expansion of military assistance to Ukraine from his state.
“I can say that our military support will be continued and expanded so that Ukraine and the future can protect itself from Russian invasion. In this regard, I would like to say that we will provide a significant portion of Starlink funds for Ukraine,” Merts said.
Assistance to the Ukrainian defense industry
German defense ministers Boris Pistorius and Ukraine Rustem Umarov have signed a agreement with Berlin on funding long weapons of Ukrainian production – in general, the German minister promised a wide range of support, the total volume of which is about 5 billion euros.
The first systems funded according to this method can be transferred to the armed forces in the coming weeks. Their advantage – they are in service, allowing them to immediately put them in operation without further staff training. As noted in the German Ministry of Defense, a significant number of weapon systems can be made in 2025, but the details have not been reported.
Germany will also continue to provide artillery shells, air defense systems, ground weapons and small weapons. A contract was also signed with the German reminders of Diehl’s defense for providing air defense systems and with bullets.
Germany plans to invest in infrastructure organizing. Plan to create facilities in Ukraine – it is provided for creating a joint adventure between Ukrainian and German defense companies.
In addition, Germany will provide communication and medicine support.
At the same time, Merts emphasized that for Ukraine there should be no restrictions on the use of long weapons. “Ukraine can completely defend itself,” the German Chancellor said.
The President of Zelensky, for his share, noted that he is pleased with new joint project agreements in the field of joint production. “We will not tell the public all the details. But now there are our labor investment agreements in Ukraine, mainly weapons. This is the manufacture of drones,” he said.
Zelensky explained that we are talking about funding new projects already in stock: “We just want them to be as long as we need. Now the first steps in financing between our countries will be made.”
They may not have dreamed about northern creeks
Mertz has promised to do everything to soften the Russian military engine and not to earn the North Stream 2 gas pipeline. Mertz emphasized that the massive wind attack on Kyiv that occurred on the weekend did not speak the language of the world, but in the language of war.
“This is a slap in front of all those fighting for stopping in Ukraine, Europe and USA. Therefore, we will increase pressure in Russia,” said the German Chancellor.
He promised to do everything to weaken Moscow’s military engine.
“We do the same to provide the negotiations. I say on behalf of Germany. In this regard, we will do everything we can to not earn the Nord Stream 2,” Merts said.
According to him, Russia’s behavior in negotiations around the Russian-Ukrainian war indicates the Kremlin’s desire to “last time”, and disagree with the world.
Merts recalled that Ukraine, for its part, has long expressed readiness for the unconditional cessation of fire.
“Moscow wants to win the time. The memorandum of negotiations announced by President Putin a week ago, we are still waiting for a weekend, not the language of the world, but the language of the war. It is a slap in front of everyone who works to stop the fire – in Ukraine, in Europe and USA,” said Cancellor.
