The bill defines the conditions required for “providing permission and supporting the person requesting the use of death.”
The Lower House of the France Parliament supported the bill in the first reading, which introduced the right to a helped death – euthanasia. Le Monde reported it.
President Emmanuel Macron called this decision “an important step.”
“The vote of the National Assembly is an important step. Respecting the sensitivity, doubt and hope of each other, the path of the brotherhood I expect. Through dignity and humanity will gradually open,” he said in Network X.
The bill determines the conditions required for “providing permission and supporting the person who requested to use the deadly substance.” These standards include at least 18 years, French citizenship or permanent legal residence in France.
Also a requirement is “the presence of a serious and painless illness, which is life -fighting, progressive or painless” and continuous physical or psychological suffering. The corresponding assistance can only be given to the person with “the ability to express his or her preferences independently.”
It was noted that the document discussion was accompanied by storms of debate, as a result of which the words “euthanasia” and “suicide assistance” were not included in the text. Most give preference to less direct words – such as “death help” or “independent use of deadly products.”
The bill proposed by Deputy Olivier Falorny supported 305 representatives, 199 who voted against. The voices were divided between the left -wing and the cents, most of them supported the document, and right and ultra -right, which opposed.
In addition, deputy approved another bill – about palliative and supported assistance. She was supported unanimously – 560 votes “for”.
Both texts should be considered the Senate in the fall – the upper house of parliament. According to the procedure, they will then return to the second and third reading of the National Assembly if senators have done an edit.
