Chisinau insisted on continuing the process of removing Russian troops and ammunition depots from its territory.

Moldova did not allow the Russian military’s so-called operational group (OGRO) based in Transnistria to enter the country. This was reported by European Truth referring to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Daniel Vode.

“The rotation of servicemen as part of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is carried out according to a mechanism created to avoid risks and ensure the coordinated movement of contingent personnel,” he said.

The commentary confirms that “officers of the so-called operational group of Russian troops, an illegal formation on the territory of our country that violates the status of neutrality,” were not allowed on the territory of Moldova.

“In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reiterates the position of the Moldovan authorities regarding the need to unconditionally continue the process of withdrawing Russian troops and ammunition depots from our country,” the spokesperson added.

Before that, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about cases of detention of Russian officials “who are going to Pridnestrovie to staff the Russian contingent on a rotational basis.”

The military contingent of the Russian Federation in Transnistria is called the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRO). OGRO was created from the remnants of the former 14th Russian army, which was stationed in Transnistria in the early 1990s and actively participated in the Transnistrian conflict.

The OGRF itself is relatively small: two motorized rifle battalions plus a command and control unit. In general, it was from 1,500 to 1,700 Russian servicemen. The majority of OGRO’s staff consists of local residents with Russian citizenship.

Moldova considers OGRO’s presence in Transnistria illegal and demands its withdrawal. In the past, the Russian military could rotate through the Ukrainian land corridor, but since 2014 they have not had such an opportunity.

Today it became known that Pridnestrovie announced plans to join the Russian Federation.

Earlier, NATO said that Russia was trying to destabilize the situation in Moldova, but had no military potential to reach Transnistria.
