The journalist asked if Trump considers the possibility of restricting sanctions against Russia, while Zelensky is waiting for it. Trump answered by mistake, again talking about “good conversation” with Putin and Europeans.
U.S. president Donald Trump on Tuesday, May 20, at an Oval Office answered the journalist’s question about whether he considers new sanctions against Russia, as expected from him to Ukraine.
In particular, the journalist noted that President Vladimir Zelensky hopes the head of the White House will impose new sanctions against Russia. He asked Trump if he was considering such a step.
“This is my decision. It won’t be someone else’s decision … You know, we have a pretty critical time. As you know, yesterday I talked to President Putin for two and a half hours. I also talked to all Europeans, or many of them, leaders. And I think we had a very good conversation yesterday,” Trump said.
He also mentioned that he would see how Russia would act, and expressed hope that “something will happen.”
Remember, on May 19, Trump held the phone talks with Putin and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. After that, the American leader said that Russia and Ukraine should immediately begin negotiating with the ceasefire and end of the war. Trump also mentioned that his conversation with Putin was “very good.”
Thereafter, the media wrote that the conversation between Trump and Putin looked like a clear defeat of the American President and the betrayal of Ukraine.
