Today, May 20, the European Union has imposed sanctions against 21 people and six organizations for the destabilization actions of Russia abroad. Former deputy of Ukraine and oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk is also on this list.
This was reported on the website of the EU Council.
Viktor Medvedchuk, a former Ukrainian politician and businessman, who, through his partners, Artem Marchevsky and Oleg Voloshin, also included in the list, also controlled the Ukrainian media and used them to spread propaganda in Ukraine and abroad, the report said.
Thanks to the secret financing of the Voice of Europe, also included in the list, and its political platform “Another Ukraine” Medvedchuk promoted the policy and actions aimed at undermining the legitimacy and trust in the Ukrainian government, directly supporting the external political interests of the Russian Federation and the spread of the Russian propaganda.
The confluence with this list of sanctions includes freezing assets, and citizens and EU companies will be prohibited from providing funds. In addition, people will also apply for trips, which will not allow them to enter the EU territory or go through it along the way.
The EU Council also allowed sanctions against “tangible assets” related to the destabilization of Russia, such as courts, aircraft, real estate, physical elements of digital and communication networks, as well as transactions of credit institutions, financial institutions and organizations that provide services using cryptocurrencies.
In addition, taking into account the systematic international campaign for manipulating the Russian media and distorting facts aimed at destabilizing neighboring countries and the EU, the EU Council will now be able to suspend the licenses of the Russian media under the control of the Russian government.
