Japan’s Ministry of Defense has warned of a military threat from Russia. They also expressed concern about China’s pressure on Taiwan. This was reported by The Guardian.
It was noted that Japan has presented its annual security report, where attention is paid to the war in Ukraine. Tokyo believes that Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine could set a bad example for China and serve as a signal that “attempts to change the status quo by force are acceptable.”
Japan’s Ministry of Defense noted that the Russian Federation is increasingly relying on its nuclear potential as a deterrent. They called it a wake-up call, as Russian nuclear submarines routinely operate near Japanese territories.
It will be recalled that Japan expanded the sanctions against the Russian Federation.
It was also reported that in Russia they started talking about Japan’s “revanchist aspirations” in relation to the Kuriles.
