At least 17 Democratic MPs, including Progressives. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omarwere arrested on Tuesday at a protest in support of the choice before Supreme Court in Washington, police said.
Capitol police said on Twitter that protesters blocked traffic on a nearby street and received three warnings before officers made arrests.
“We made a total of 35 arrests” for creating a crowd to obstruct traffic, police said. “That number of arrests includes 17 members of Congress.”
A small demonstration took place three weeks after the government’s controversial decision. Supreme Court who canceled the decision Rowe vs. Wade 1973, guaranteed the right to abortion at the federal level.
“Today I was arrested while participating in a civil disobedience action with my Congressional colleagues outside Supreme CourtMinnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar tweeted.
“I will continue to do everything in my power to raise the alarm about violations of our reproductive rights!” he added.
American media reported that other Democratic lawmakers attended the protest: Nydia Velasquez, Carolyn Maloney, Jackie Speyer and Bonnie Watson Coleman.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York was also arrested and issued a statement saying that “there is no democracy if women do not control their bodies or manage their health issues, including reproductive health.”
” Republican Party and the right-wing extremists behind this decision are not for life, but for control over the bodies of women, girls and anyone who can get pregnant,” he added.
Footage of the protest shows how Ocasio-CortezOmar and others were led away by police without handcuffs as they greeted supporters.
