This is the first of such a French agreement with a state that is not an immediate neighbor, and a clear signal to strengthen the strategic collaboration between Warsaw and Paris.
Poland and France have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the city of Nansi, which covers security, defense, energy, science and culture. RMF24 reported this Friday, May 9.
The document was signed by Polish prime minister Donald Tusk and France President Emmanuel Macron.
Mutual assistance in the event of a threat – the main part of the contract
The central clause of the agreement is the provision of mutual assistance in the event of a security threat of one of the parties. Tusk emphasized that this outfit is the main thing for Poland.
Macron made it clear that the provision did not replace the obligations within the NATO framework, but strengthened them and showed the willingness of the countries to take great responsibility for the safety of Europe.
This is the first type of type signed by France in uneven countries, indicating an increase in rank of coherent relations between Paris and Warsaw.
Immediately after the main document, the parties signed the second agreement – in cooperation in the field of civil energy energy, aimed at strengthening the energy freedom of both countries and Europe as a whole.
Macron emphasized that Poland and France could make a significant contribution to strengthening European defense capabilities, industrial and technological freedom.
“We have been the primary responsibility for peace and security on our continent, which Russia’s attack on Ukraine has tried to undermine three years, or rather, almost 10 years,” Macron added.
The contract also establishes April 20 through the Polish-French friendship day. The sign took place in the city of Nansi, symbolic for Polish-French relations: here in 1736, after the ouster from the country, Poland’s King Stanislav Leshchinsky, the French-father-in-law’s mother-in-law Louis XV, lived as Lorraine’s duke.
Earlier, Polish prime minister Donald Tusk spoke about the major provisions of the Polish-French contract.
It has become known that France and Poland will sign a new comprehensive bilateral agreement. It covers issues of defense, energy and economy against the back of threats from the Russian Federation and changes in US policy.
Remember, the “group of five” – Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Poland – confirmed unchanged political and military support of our country.
