Beijing bans hotel weddings, banquets due to anti-COVID measures

The municipal government Beijing Large events, such as weddings and banquets, have been banned from all hotels in the capital, several local media reported today.

This decision was made in the midst of a small outbreak of COVID-19 in different parts of the Asian giant, which is governed by the policy Zero COVID implemented by the Chinese government and imposes strict measures and restrictions in areas where there are cases.

While Beijing has seen only a handful of positive results in recent weeks, the city’s authorities have updated their pandemic prevention and control measures at the city’s hotels.

Under the new rules, hotels must restrict events such as meetings, conferences and trainings, and those located in the “central part” of the city are prohibited from holding them at all.

Unrest among the population

The news has caused discomfort on the country’s social media, where discontent and concern about anti-epidemic measures regularly appear before discussions of these policies are banned on the Internet.

“My brother’s wedding was moved from winter to summer, why is it so difficult to have a wedding in Beijing? — wrote a user of Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, censored in the country.

“Not allowing a hotel to host banquets is like banning dinner parties or business operations. Restoring development is too difficult,” commented another netizen.

China, sticking to a tough policy Zero COVID who excludes life with the virus, has been dealing with virus outbreaks for more than four months omicron variant, with the most serious case being exemplified by the detention of the Shanghai metropolitan area (26 million inhabitants) for more than two months.
