The Vatican chose a new dad. On Wednesday night, the Cardinals gathered at the conclave at the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican who held the first vote of voting on candidates for the post of the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Three hours later, black smoke came from the chapel chimney, which means it is not possible to choose a pontiff.

Procedure

Day -day can take place until four voting twists, the Vatican reported. The next one was planned on Thursday morning. White smoke from the Sistine Chapel pipe, accompanied by the bells, announced the new pope’s election. Usually a new pontiff appears on the balcony that goes to the square of St. Peter, within an hour after his election. Thousands believe that waiting for its appearance has already gathered in the square.

The biggest election in history

The Cardinals gathered to participate in Conclave, which gathered after the death of Pope Francis on April 21.

Throughout history, conclaves lasted from a few days to several months – depending on the level of disagreement about candidates for the holy throne.

In recent years, the process takes less time – the two previous conclaves in 2005 and 2013 lasted two days.

The current conclave is the largest in history. The College of Cardinals has 252 people, but Cardinals under 80 years can vote.

There are 135 such as cardinals as a whole, but the two are unable to participate in the vote because of the disease. The youngest participant in Conclave was the 45-year-old Melbourne bishop of Ukrainian origin Micola Bull.

During the conclave, the connection of the cardinals to the outside world was excluded, and they were actually in separation from the Sistine Chapel until they select Pontiff.

All interior areas where Cardinals gather, live and extract food, reviewed for the presence of microphones and other electronic devices – voting has occurred in strict secret mode.

In his teaching, he emphasized that the current vote is of extraordinary importance, and encouraged the Cardinals to put aside “all personal considerations”.
