For Russia, its national interest is mainly and higher oil prices, Dmitry Peskov says.
Oil prices may not affect Russia’s attitude to its national interest. The statement was made by Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov in a commentary to Russian propagandists on Tuesday, May 6.
“Oil prices cannot be a factor that could affect Russia’s attitude to its national interest. Russia’s national interests above all, mainly the prices of this oil,” he said.
When asked how the Kremlin was reviewed by reducing oil prices for the Russian budget economy, Peskov replied: “Of course, international oil prices are a very important factor for developing a budget in our country, generally for the Russian economy.”
He recalled that Russia has long been working on OPEC+ format to keep prices at the best level.
“Therefore, this work goes on, we carefully monitor the international conjunction,” Peskov added.
The day before, US president Donald Trump said it was now a good moment to complete the war in Ukraine, as oil prices fell significantly. In his opinion, it enhances the pressure in Russia.
Earlier, Trump repeatedly called for OPEC to increase production and reduce prices, claiming that it would eliminate Russia’s income and contribute to the end of the war. The United States also threatens new penalties in Moscow and other pressure steps, while peace negotiations are moving slowly.
Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Russia would survive “oil prices”, as its economic dependence on Hydrocarbons is said to have reduced.
