According to draft law, penalties provide a tariff of 500% for imports from countries to buy Russia oil, oil products, natural gas or uranium.
US senator Lindsay Graham said he has ensured the support of 72 senators under the bill, which provides new sanctions against Russia and tariffs for countries that buy oil, gas and other major goods. Bloomberg reported this on Thursday, May 1.
Penalties will take effect if Vladimir Putin does not go into serious negotiations to complete the war against Ukraine.
“The goal is to help the president,” Graham said after the United States and Ukraine announced an agreement on accessing Ukrainian natural resources. The agreement is the assumption for KYIV representatives, who are afraid that Donald Trump will weaken his support for peace negotiations in Moscow.
According to the draft law, penalties provide 500% of import tariffs from countries to buy Russian oil, oil products, natural gas or uranium. Other restrictions include a ban for U.S. citizens to buy Russian power debts.
“His frustration is unlimited,” Graham said. “How I want to see that the war ended in negotiations – with dignity and fairness. I believe Trump is the best of those who achieve this goal. And the implemented sanctions reflect the Senate opinion: the main wine is assigned to Russia.”
Graham also mentioned that the President of Russia would “make a big mistake if he would try to replay Trump.”
“Wait for immediate actions once President Trump considers the road not leading,” the senator added.
According to Graham, he also listed adequate support to the House of Representative, which would allow to submit a bill to vote.
The senator foretold that ultimately had to choose Putin between negotiations with Trump and the “Expires of the Russian economy”.
At the time of publication, the White House did not comment on the initiative.
It should be noted that Graham recently stated that American lawmakers are ready to coordinate new sanctions against Russia.
Remember that on Saturday, Trump suggested that Putin did not want to stop the war in Ukraine and therefore “must fight him differently” – with the help of “banking” or “second penalties”.
As reported, Graham repeatedly said that the United States should impose additional sanctions against Russia if it does not agree with the world.
