According to draft law, penalties provide a tariff of 500% for imports from countries to buy Russia oil, oil products, natural gas or uranium.

US senator Lindsay Graham said he has support for 72 senators under a bill that provides new sanctions against Russia and tariffs for countries buying oil, gas and other major products. Bloomberg reported this on Thursday, May 1.

Penalties will take effect if Vladimir Putin does not go into serious negotiations to complete the war against Ukraine.

“The goal is to help the president,” Graham said after the United States and Ukraine announced an agreement on accessing Ukrainian natural resources. The agreement is the assumption for KYIV representatives, who are afraid that Donald Trump will weaken his support for peace negotiations in Moscow.

According to the draft law, penalties provide 500% of import tariffs from countries to buy Russian oil, oil products, natural gas or uranium. Other restrictions include a ban for U.S. citizens to buy Russian power debts.

“He talked about frustration,” Graham said. – “I want to end the war through negotiations – with dignity and fairness. I believe Trump is the best person to achieve this goal, but these penalties reflect the Senate’s opinion: We consider Russia to be the main culprit.”

Graham also mentioned that the President of Russia would “make a big mistake if he would try to replay Trump.”

“When President Trump considers us standing, then wait for the actions,” the senator added.

According to Graham, he also has sufficient support to the House of Representatives to submit a bill.

The senator predicts that Putin will eventually be forced to choose between negotiations with Trump and to “the Russian economy is crushed.”

At the time of publication, the White House did not comment on the initiative.

It should be noted that Graham recently stated that American lawmakers are ready to coordinate new sanctions against Russia.

Remember that on Saturday, Trump suggested that Putin did not want to stop the war in Ukraine and therefore “you had to fight him differently” – with the help of “banking” or “second penalties”.

As reported, Graham repeatedly said that the United States should impose additional sanctions against Russia if it does not agree with the world.
