The EC will ensure a proper move to a new procedure in which all conditions of trade liberalization will be carried out in a free trade agreement between Ukraine and EU.
European Commission’s press secretary Olof Gill said the EC does not intend to expand the regime of autonomous trade (ATMs) for Ukraine (the so-called “trade visa-free”), which operate between Ukraine and the EU. He said this in a briefing on April 30 in Brussels, European Truth reports.
According to Gill, the autonomous trading measures that take most of the barriers to Ukrainian exports to the European Union are not fully canceled: all trading details between Ukraine and EU will be recorded in a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement (GVSSST).
“We aim to ensure a smooth transition to a new regime, where all trading agreements will be formed in a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement we have in Ukraine,” he said.
“So, we intend to make a move that will allow the ATM action to graduate, after which all the details of the liberalization will be programmed to GVSST,” the EC press secretary said.
He said “he can’t say when this process begins.”
According to Gill, “This will happen soon and will take place in a structure so that there is no room for doubt.”
“We will make sure there is no need to roll back. We will introduce the process so that after the ATM expiry, the procedure we trade in Ukraine on a bilateral basis is fully integrated with our GVSST,” the European Commission’s press secretary said.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union did not intend to automatically expand the regime of trade preferences for Ukraine after its action was completed on June 5, 2025.
Remember that in May 2022 the EU Council for the first time decided to cancel all duties and quotas for exporting from Ukraine for a year to support in connection with a full -scale invasion of Russia. This regime was expanded in 2023 and in 2024.
