European Commissioner Marta Kos records that Hungary has created many obstacles to Kyiv, but Budapest is still not “inadequate” concessions.
The European Union considers the possibility of continuing the process of entering the Republic of Moldova, which separates Ukraine because Hungary is resistant to negotiations in Kiev. This is said by the European Commissioner for expanding Marta Cos in an interview Europe Libera Moldova.
According to him, “the two countries going to EU membership in June could not exclude the separation of the two countries, if some expansion decisions should be made in Brussels.
“We are already discussing the member states of what to do, because not a single member state opens against the opening of Moldova’s first cluster,” he said and added that only Hungary opposed Ukraine’s climb to the EU.
Moldova and Ukraine until this time moved together in the EU joining process, and they were considered a tandem.
Last year, 27 EU member states gave green light at the beginning of entry negotiations with both candidan countries, but not a single section of negotiations had been opened.
Ukraine negotiations are blocked by Hungary, which has created many obstacles, including those in need of advanced rights for the Hungarian minority.
Kos believes that Moldova will be a member of the EU until the end of its mandate, in 2029. In his opinion, “If we do not have a new member state at the current Mandate of the Commission in Europe,” this would be considered a “failure”.
The KOS expressed the regret that Hungary inspired the Ukraine’s entry process. Budapest also organized an “advisory survey” about Ukraine’s entry into the EU, and Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has voted publicly.
“Ukraine has done enough, I can say it from my own experience, because I contributed to the dialogue between Hungary and Ukraine,” Kos said.
He added that Budapest had passed many points for negotiations, and Kyiv was ready to fulfill everything, “but that was not enough for Hungary.”
Earlier, the media wrote that Moldova, who started negotiations with EU membership at the same time of Ukraine and is also ready to open a cluster 1 major issue (basics), could do it earlier.
