To achieve a new Truce, the West must stop providing weapons in Ukraine, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was only in conjunction with stopping the support of the west of Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Minister reported this in an interview with CBS News.
The journalist asked Lavrov about Moscow’s position on the unconditional ceasefire, which Ukraine had already agreed to, as Russia passed a number of requirements.
In response, Lavrov said: “We also agree with an unconditional Truce, but we want to guarantee that the ceasefire will not be used again to strengthen the Ukrainian army and the weapons should stop.”
The presenter recalled that Kyiv accepted the US offer of complete stopping on March 11, but Moscow passed additional conditions.
“No, it’s not initial conditions,” Lavrov replied. “These were the lessons we received at least three times when we entered into agreements similar to what we are talking about today,” he added, referring to the previous agreement with a Truce in Minsk.
Lavrov again said that in order to achieve a new Truce, the West must stop providing weapons to Ukraine.
Earlier, Kyiv and European allies have already called out that this request is unacceptable, because without the support Ukraine will remain defenseless before the invasion.
As we had written, Vladimir Zelensky and Donald Trump met on the eve of Pope Francis’ funeral. According to the media, they agreed to hold another meeting after the ceremony. Later, the White House emphasized that the parties had a “very productive” meeting.
Earlier, Donald Trump in a conversation with journalists did not exclude a possible meeting with Vladimir Zelensky.
