The project of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine has been prepared and is currently expected of political approval. It was reported by the Deutsche Welle resource, near the tribunal creation process.
This tribunal is not officially called “Tribunal for Putin.” It will work in the Hague and will be created based on the European Council. The content of the documents in its foundation mechanism has not been disclosed.
According to the source, despite the expectations, Vladimir Putin, Mikhail Mishustin and Sergei Lavrov will not be judged until they hold their positions. Their safety in the state is currently excluding it.
At the same time, the investigation will start at least 20 Russian Federation officials. The list appears both older representatives of Russia’s political and military leadership, and, perhaps, Belarus, responsible for planning, starting and carrying out an aggressive war against Ukraine.
As the resource explained, the court could not make the charges and place the warrant for arrest until the immunity was removed from these people. At the same time, it will not hurt to prepare the accused materials.
The resource also noted that the United States after Donald Trump’s return to the White House actually refused to participate in the creation of a special tribunal.
However, the European Council believes that “the formula found for a special tribunal in this issue is sufficient to have responsibility and fighting the lack of battle.”
Earlier it was reported that European countries have decided basic parameters for the creation of a special tribunal, which will have the authority to hold political and military leaders of the Russian Federation, which is the highest responsibility for the crime of the invasion.
Note that in April 2024, 44 countries supported the idea of creating a special tribunal for Russian aggression crime and using freezing possession in favor of Ukraine. They signed a political declaration at the conference “restoration of justice for Ukraine”, which took place in The Hague.
