The United States can reorganize the State Department – the appropriate project Decree has already been developed by the US presidential administration Donald Trump.
It is proposed to reorganize the State Department. By October 1, all the “insignificant” embassies and consulates in Africa south of Sahara can be eliminated. Instead, they should form a smaller office of special affairs in Africa, which will obey the White House National Security Council. The document was extended to the current and former American diplomats around the world. New York Times and Bloomberg write about this.
It is noted that the functions of the State Department will limit “coordinated anti -terrorism operations” and “strategic production and trade in critical natural resources”.
In addition, the reorganization project includes a reduction in many departments and individual posts of the State Department, who care about changing the climate, refugees, as well as the problems of democracy and human rights.
The media notes that the State Department should be reorganized into four regional buildings:
- Eurasian (Europe, Russian Federation and Central Asia),
- The Middle East (Arab countries, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan),
- Latin American (Central America, South America and the Caribbean),
- Indo-Pacific region (East Asia, Southeast Asia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Banuta and the Maldives).
NYT writes that one of the most radical offers in the project is the liquidation of the African bureau, which is responsible for US policy in countries south of Sahara. The project also states that all “optional” embassies and consulates in countries south of Sahara will be closed until October 1.
Recall that the US presidential administration Donald Trump proposed reducing the budget of the State Department and what remained of the United States agency for international development (USAID), almost half, according to the internal office.
