The arrest of the country’s opposition, the mayor of Istanbul, caused a sharp criticism of Erdogan in Berlin.
The German government postponed the supply of about 30 eurofighter fighters to Turkey. The reason was called the arrest of the Turkish leader of Ekrem Imamoglu, Handelsblatt reported on Saturday, April 19.
It was noted that the German government was subject to Erdogan hard, announcing “an attack on Turkish democracy.” Therefore, in their opinion, it is necessary to stop dealing for the sale of weapons.
However, German’s acting Chancellor Olaf Sholts was justified in Turkey exports in October last year during a visit to Istanbul: “Türkiye was a member of NATO, so we repeatedly made decisions that led to specific supplies.”
Remember that Imamoglu was confined on March 19 on charges of corruption, bribery and connection with criminal organizations. Authorities have opened two separate investigations where mayors have been accused of filtering the tenders and the leadership of a criminal group.
We added that more than 13 million participants in primaries were appointed the arrested Ekrem Imamoglu as a Turkey President’s candidate. In general, 15 million citizens took part in the opposition’s primaries of the People’s Republican Party on March 23.
