The EU does not eliminate a catastrophic situation in gas supplies, so the European Commission has developed a plan to limit the consumption of “blue” fuel.
The European Commission is preparing a plan to limit gas consumption for European Union (EU) countries. It is used in case the bloc countries are faced with a huge shortage of “blue” fuel. This was reported on Tuesday, July 19 by Politico, citing EU diplomatic sources.
According to diplomats, this measure is planned to be introduced in conjunction with the gas saving plan for the winter months.
In the event of an emergency, such as a complete cessation of gas supplies from Russia, the European Commission may impose mandatory restrictions on gas consumption.
So far, Russian Gazprom has completely stopped or limited supplies to the bloc’s 12 countries. There are also concerns that the Russian Federation will not resume supplies through Nord Stream 1 after a ten -day break for scheduled technical work.
The consumption restriction plan provides a decision at EU level by a qualified majority. This means that it cannot be blocked by one country. The European Commission has the ability to launch emergency measures at its sole discretion or at the request of at least two countries.
Napmonim, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine said that Russia is using natural gas supplies to put pressure on Europe. But the storage was about to fill up, so the Russians just needed to burn their gas.
In addition, by the end of 2022, Russia’s share of gas in Europe could be the lowest in 20 years. Russia can only meet EU gas needs by 20%,
