The UN noted that the reduction of global financing of health care is jealous of the lives of pregnant women – especially in vulnerable countries.
The world has recorded a reduction in the mortality rate in the mother 40% from 2000 to 2023 – above all due to better access to major medical services. This is stated in the new UN “Trends in Maternal Mortality” report, published on World Health Day April 7.
According to the WHO, due to a reduction in financing in the world, the supply chains of essential drugs, in particular, for the treatment of bleeding, preeclampsia and malaria, which are the leading cause of mother’s death, has been violated.
“The reduction in global financing of healthcare is jealous of the lives of pregnant women – especially in vulnerable countries, limiting their access to the necessary assistance. The world should be forced to invest in the midwife, nurses and health workers so that every mother and child has the opportunity to survive,” said unisef executive director Katherine Russell.
In 5 regions after 2015, the development of the death of the mother’s death stopped. Europe to them.
According to the UN, women today have many opportunities to live pregnancy and childbirth than ever before. However, the speed of improvement significantly slowed down after 2016. In 2023, approximately 260 thousand women died as a result of complications associated with pregnancy or childbirth – it was about a death every 2 minutes.
According to UN estimates, in order to achieve the desired result of 2030, the level of mother’s death must decrease by 15% year -it – ten times faster than now (1.5%).
“In addition to ensuring access to high assistant assistance, it is important to strengthen the basic health and reproductive rights of women and girls who determine their opportunities for safe pregnancy and childbirth,” said Gedros Gedros General Director Gebrususus.
In the UN report, they first presented a global assessment of the POVID-19 influence on the safety of the mother. In 2021, due to pandemia, 40 thousand women were in addition to died-322 thousand compared to 282 thousand in 2020. This increase was associated not only with direct complications from CovID-19 disease, but also in major disruptions in the operation of the obstetric system.
Despite the general decline in mortality in the mother of 40%, only three UN regions reached a significant decline after 2015: Africa south of Sahara, Australia and New Zealand, as well as Central and South Asia. Africa south of the Sahara, despite the great achievements, remains a region with the highest degree of death in the mother – about 70% of the global value in 2023. High indicators of poverty and conflicts continue to deepen the crisis.
At the same time, after 2015, the development of the death of the mother’s death stopped 5 regions: North Africa and West Asia; East and Southeast Asia; Oceania (no Australia and New Zealand); Europe and North America; Latin America and the Caribbean pool.
Pregnant women who live in zones of crises and humanitarian crises and conflicts are at the highest risk. Almost two -Thirds of all mother’s deaths are now in countries affected by the instability or war. The worst indicators are in Chad and Central Africa Republic, Nigeria, Somalia and Afghanistan.
Remember that in Ukraine in 2024 495.09 thousand deaths were registered, 2.8 times the number of registered births – 176.78 thousand.
