The European Union may deprive millions of Ukrainians.
After a full Russian invasion of Ukraine, the EU directive for temporary protection was a salvation of almost 4.3 million Ukrainians. This allowed the EU countries to grant refugees from Ukraine the right to life, work and access to access. Nevertheless, this legal status can be canceled, since negotiations are currently underway. This was reported by Euraactiv.
It is noted that the cessation of hostilities can immediately change the situation by leaving the adopted countries to decide whether to weaken these protection measures, to achieve integration or push refugees to return home. The block, which is often paralyzed by the debates of migration, any action of the EU level to continue temporary protection will probably be difficult politically.
The media also writes that the latest sociological studies show that fewer Ukrainians want to return home after the war. And the number of those who stated that there was no hope for returning, more than doubled – from 5% to 11%.
Reuters said that the US presidential administration Donald Trump plans to cancel the temporary legal status of about 240,000 citizens of Ukraine, which entered after the start of a full war. This decision can lead to an accelerated deportation of Ukrainians in April.
