Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to visit the White House on April 7 and discuss new customs tariffs with US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the publication of axios with a reference to four knowledgeable resources.
The head of the government of Israel intends to visit the White House on Monday, April 7. Thus, this may be the first visit of a foreign leader who will personally meet with President Trump to try to take off the duties.
The leaders of the two countries will also discuss the Iran nuclear crisis and the conflict in the gas sector.
Israel has tried to avoid the duties that Trump imposed on almost all countries of the world, announcing the initial removal of all duties in American products, media records. However, it does not work. The rate of 17%, set by Trump for Israel, is based on a significant US bilateral trade shortage.
Trump called Netanyahu and the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban on April 3, when Netanyahu visited Budapest. This call was caused by Hungary’s decision to leave the International Criminal Court, but Netanyahu also increased the issue of customs tariffs.
Trump recommends Netanyahu to go to the White House without indicating the exact date. Trump later told reporters riding in Air Force One that Netanyahu was about to visit Washington, “maybe even next week.”
Initially, both sides hoped that the visit would take place later in April, perhaps during the Peshah period, which began on April 14th.
As you know, on Wednesday, April 2, Trump announced the introduction of major duties to imported goods. He called it America’s “Day of Liberation”.
