The path of people to raise high temperatures was less

The boundaries of human thermoregulation are our ability to maintain stable body temperature in extreme heat – lower than previously expected.

Thus, in many regions, the planet can soon observe the level of heat and humidity, which exceeds guarantees safe for human survival. This was shown in a study conducted by scientists from the University of Ottawa (Canada), the university’s press service reports.

Our study provided important data that confirm recent assumptions that the conditions under which a person can effectively adjust the temperature of his body is actually much lower than previous models suggested, the scientists say. – This is very important information because we are faced with an increase in global temperature.

As part of the study, scientists using a widespread technique known as the protocols of the thermal pace subjected 12 volunteers to various conditions of temperature and humidity to determine the point at which thermoregulation becomes impossible.

The difference between this study was that the participants returned to the laboratory for a whole day to stay in conditions, slightly higher than their predictable boundary of thermoregulation, the article says.

The participants were in extreme conditions – 42 ° C at a moisture content of 57%, which corresponds to Humidex (temperature index and humidity, which allows you to evaluate the subjective sense of a person in hot weather) about 62 ° C.

The results were clear. The body temperature of the participants continuously increased, and many participants could not resist the 9-hour exposition. These data are the first direct confirmation of the heating protocols, which were used to assess the upper thermoregulation limits for almost 50 years, the researchers said.

Scientists emphasize that the results emphasize physiological stress, which occurs during prolonged exposure to extreme heat, which becomes more common due to climate change.

While the world fights the realities of climate change, this study is aimed at starting important debates about our safety and adaptability to increasingly extreme conditions, the article says.
