U.S. officials have talked to major Russian oil buyers to establish a price ceiling.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has called India’s “encouraging” talks on Russia’s oil price limit. On Monday, July 18, Reuters reports.
“The conversations I’ve had have been generally uplifting,” Yellen said.
India has not promised to cap oil prices, he said, but has cooperated with the United States and “has shown no hostility to the idea.”
Yellen told reporters on Saturday that he had had productive bilateral meetings on the proposed price limit with more than six colleagues on the sideline of a meeting of G-20 finance officials on Indonesia’s island of Bali.
The Treasury Department said he met with officials from Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, Turkey and Singapore there.
It was previously reported that the White House was negotiating with major oil-consuming countries regarding the establishment of a price ceiling for Russian oil.
