Greenland is a formal part of the Denmark kingdom, but since 1979 he has his own government. Many local political forces are working hard for complete freedom, though they are different in views in terms of its achievement.
Denmark’s Prime Minister Matt Fredericksen is preparing for an important visit to Greenland, which is scheduled April 2. The journey will last for three days, and its main goal is to strengthen the connections between the two territories against the geopolitical stress background caused by US statements about the island’s strategic significance. On Saturday, March 29, Bloomberg reports.
Fredericksen will meet with Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederick Nielsen and local government representatives.
“Denmark wants to confirm his loyalty to cooperation with the autonomic region, as Washington is increasingly showing interest on this Arctic Island,” the publication said.
Recently, US vice-president JD also visited the American military base in the northwest of Greenland, where he criticized Denmark’s policy on the island and remembered Donald Trump’s statements about his strategic importance for the United States.
However, as the newspaper writes, most of the inhabitants of Greenland do not support the idea of joining the United States and assert their way of developing.
“I am very polite to how Greenland politicians and Greenland politicians are with great pressure in Greenland. The situation requires the unity of political parties, the commonwealth countries and cooperation on a serious and equal basis,” Fredericksen said.
In the past, Trump repeated his argument “We need Greenland.” According to Trump, this is “a question of peace for the whole world.”
