The Kuboid Museum was opened at the exhibition center in Kyiv.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the first lady of Olena Zelenskaya, as well as the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovi took part in the opening of the museum, the Ukranform agency reports.
This space is devoted to mathematics in the form of an interactive exposition, where children can interact with exhibits, touch mathematical canons. This is the first such museum in Ukraine, ”Lisovi said.
According to the minister, the Museum of Mathematics and its educational program for children and teachers will help to overcome significant losses in education caused by war and systemic problems in the study of mathematics.
The First Deputy Minister of Education Eugene Kudrivets noted that the results of the PISA International Study for Teenage Mathematical Competencies conducted in 2022 – it is necessary to increase the level of knowledge in mathematics, especially in rural areas.
In particular, according to the Ministry of Education and Science, 42% of Ukrainian adolescents did not reach the basic level of mathematics in accordance with the results of the PISA-2022, 132.5-medium score NMT 2024 in mathematics-are low among mandatory subjects, less than 50% of mathematics, which were certified, were able to confirm their knowledge.
According to Kudriaws, work on the creation of the Museum of Mathematics began in 2021, but was suspended from a complete invasion of Russia.
The work resumed in 2023, the total project cost is estimated at $ 6 million. International partners and donors joined the museum.
It is noted that the Museum of Mathematics in Kyiv is the fourth similar museum in Europe and the fifth in the world. It contains 120 exhibits, six thematic zones, four training rooms for students and teachers.
In addition to expositions, the Museum of Mathematics will offer educational programs for teachers and children. They will be available both in the museum and on the Internet for everyone.
They also plan to launch a tourist exhibition of the Museum of Mathematics – two exhibitions of 17 exhibits.
The museum will offer the following opportunities for students:
- understand the theory by touching and interaction with exhibits;
- overcome knowledge gaps using special online programs developed by teachers and scientists;
- To develop the skills of critical thinking, logic, spatial imagination.
Teachers are provided for:
- Special courses and trainings on the introduction of interactive teaching methods;
- space for classes, seminars and seminars;
- Professional environment for the exchange of experience and advanced training.
The space will currently work in test mode. The first access to the museum will be provided to schools whose students won this year all the Cracean mathematical Olympics. During the test period, the first classes for children and teachers will be held.
From May 1, the Museum of Mathematics will become available to everyone.
The project was implemented by the National Center “Little Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the support of UNICEF of Ukraine and their world.
