European sanctions against Russia will continue.
The ambassadors of the European Union on Friday, March 14, agreed to continue sanctions for about 2000 citizens of the Russian Federation within six months. The list includes the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and many senior politicians and businessmen. This was announced by the guardian.
The sanctions, which should continue every six months, will remain valid until September 15, 2025.
It was noted that Hungary threatened to impose a veto on this decision and insisted on excluding the sanctions of the Russian oligarch Michael Friedman from the list of sanctions. It was supported by Luxembourg. However, according to Bloomberg, the magnate will still remain under sanctions.
The media report that if the sanctions against the country of the aggressor are not continued, this would actually defrost to 30% of the total amount of frozen Russian assets. Experts say that this is about 60 billion euros who thawed or even more.
We recall that on February 27, US President Donald Trump announced the application of the continuation of the sanctions imposed against Russia for the next year as a result of invasion of Ukraine.
