He was sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of state funds.
This was reported about the publication “Echo of the Caudasus”.
The prosecutor’s office claimed that from May 1, 2009 to February 25, 2013, 9 million Lari (about $ 5.4 million at that time) was spent from the state budget for personal purposes on behalf of Saakashvili.
The court also found himself guilty of abuse by the official body of the former head of the Special Protection Service of TiMiria Ganashi. It is fined by 300,000 Lari.
Saakashvili and Gianashi repeatedly rejected the accusations, saying that the process was political.
Saakashvili is currently six years. The sentences on it were previously accepted in two other cases – the forgiveness of the murderers of Sandro Girlyani and the beating of the deputy Valerie Gelashvili.
The new term of imprisonment will be calculated from the moment of detention of Mikhail Saakashvili – October 1, 2021. Thus, according to the proposal, he will be able to go out only on October 1, 2030.
Also against Saakashvili still presents trials in cases:
- Events of November 7, 2007 (forcible acceleration by the protest police in the center of Tbilisi);
