In Romania, the Central Electoral Commission did not allow the election of a distant candidate for the pro -Russian Kelin Georgescu.
The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the commission today, March 9, Bloomberg reports.
It is noted that the CEC of Romania previously received more than a thousand complaints, mainly related to the anti -democratic and extremist position of Georges. The decision can still be appealed in the Constitutional Court of the country.
It is not known whether George will support any of the other candidates, such as the leader of the largest distant opposition party, George Simion, who supported him after the cancellation of the presidential election at the end of last year.
Georgescu has already called this decision by the CEC “Direct Blow to the Heart of Democracy” on his page of the social network.
If democracy in Romania falls, the whole democratic world will fall! And this is only the beginning, ”he said, adding that“ Europe is now a dictatorship, Romania is under a tyrant.
According to media reports, several thousand protesters gathered in front of Romania, some of them tried to encounter the police and break fences to break into the building. The police used tear gas.
On November 24, 2024, the first round of the presidential election was held in Romania, where the majority of votes received a dahlia, which led an independent candidate.
On December 6, the Romanian Constitutional Court canceled the results of the first round of the presidential election, motivating it with the fact that, according to special services, Russia intervened in their course.
The first round of the repeated presidential elections in Romania should be held on May 4. According to Bloomberg, previous government steps against Georges have only increased their popularity and an increase in distrust of state institutions.
Publishing polls showed that in the first round on May 4, the Georgek could gain from 40% to 45% of the vote. This would give him a real opportunity to become president of Romania in the second round, planned on May 18.
Earlier this month, the Romanian prosecutor’s office brought out six criminal charges against Zhorzheo during the investigation of his previous campaign.
He is accused of the head of the Nazi organization and false statements about the financing of the election campaign (Zhorzheko announced zero financing).
If the dahlia is found guilty, he can be imprisoned and deprived of the right to run for a state position. Georges himself denies some kind of crime and continues to say that he does not finance his campaign, which, according to him, was based exclusively on volunteers.
