The President of Poland Andrzej Duda has made a proposal to change the Constitution to adjust the minimum level of defense costs of 4% of GDP. This was informed by the President’s office on Friday, March 7.
“Now in SEJM, Poland President Andrzej Duda has made a proposal to change the Constitution to ensure defense costs of at least 4% of GDP,” the report said.
This decision should ensure solid financing of the Polish Army, strengthen national security and protect defense projects from the risk of cutting the future budget.
In this regard, Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is talking to Parliament, emphasized that the country’s main work is to protect his border in the East, which is the eastern NATO flank of the NATO and the EU.
“Regardless of the US guarantee for Ukraine, Poland’s role will be decisive. We are responsible for logistics, border security and defense of the European line with Russia,” Tusk said.
He also emphasized that Warsaw plans to expand the funding of infrastructure facilities and defense of the eastern border. According to him, the EU allowed governments to unite to distribute structural funds, and if additional funding for the defense and military industry was required, Poland would take this opportunity.
