Last fall, Ronnell, a 23-year-old law student in New Hampshire, got bored and took care of his LinkedIn page.
Although she hasn’t missed her ex, it’s been a long time and she’s a bit curious what she’s been up to lately, professionally speaking.
He clicked on his page.
An hour later she received a text message from her ex: “You are viewing my LinkedIn, right?”
“After I had a mini-heart attack, I immediately ran through my settings to see where I was wrong,” Ronnell told HuffPost, requesting to use only his name.
“There seem to be a lot of options for how you look when you look at people’s profiles,” he says.
There really is! Ronell, like many of us before, has learned the hard way that in most cases, LinkedIn notifies the customer when they view their profile.
Are you trying to see what one of your bragging former employees will do? They’ll find it on LinkedIn!
Looking for your old gym to see if they’re out of town? They can also find it on LinkedIn!
Wondering if Shaki is part of the Papa John Corporation? Yes, it is and it sees you checked on LinkedIn! (Yes, Shaq has a LinkedIn Page.)
Notification when someone visits your LinkedIn profile is the most chaotic feature on any social media

How to view LinkedIn profiles anonymously
Of course, you’ll probably want to make sure your ex – or someone else, for that matter – doesn’t see you looking at their profile. To do this, you just need to enable personal mode in your privacy settings.
To find this option, go to the LinkedIn website and click on the “I” icon in the top right corner of your profile. Then click on the “Settings and Privacy” option from the drop-down menu.
From there, click on the “Visibility” tab on the left.

Once you click on the “Visibility” tab, click on the “Visibility of your profile and network” sub-tab. This page will give you the ability to edit your visible or personal LinkedIn profile. Click in “Personal” mode if you don’t want people to see your stalk anymore!

And just this. You are now a hidden browser. People will still see that someone saw their profile after you view it, but they will only see that a stranger saw it.
Keep in mind, however, that if you have a primary (free) account and you choose to browse privately, you won’t see who saw your profile. If you upgrade to a Premium Account, you can browse for yourself and continue to see the list of people who have viewed your profile in the last 90 days.
Ronnell now uses personal mode. But like everyone who “accidentally” clicked on their previous LinkedIn page, they were still a bit bored with the experience.
“My personal settings are now set, but I still avoid looking at someone’s profile unless it’s for work because I’m afraid I might accidentally change the settings!” He says. “If it’s really necessary to keep your past listings, follow Instagram or Twitter.”
