Saudi health authorities tracked down those in close contact with the sick person.
The first case of monkeypox virus infection was reported in Saudi Arabia. This was reported by the Saudi Press Agency, citing a statement by the Kingdom Ministry of Health on Thursday, July 14.
“The Ministry of Health has announced the identity of a monkeypox case in a man who returned to Riyadh from outside the kingdom,” the statement said.
It was found that Saudi Arabia’s health services tracked down those in close contact with the sick person. They are all under medical supervision.
Earlier this week, the first case of monkeypox was confirmed in Russia. The man diagnosed with the infection had recently returned from Europe.
And last week, the WHO announced two new deaths from monkeypox. Within 10 days, 2614 new cases of the disease were detected. Growth jumped by almost 80%.
Monkeypox is a rare zoonotic viral disease (a disease transmitted to humans from animals). Commonly found in West and Central Africa. Symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, and skin rash that starts on the face and spreads to other parts of the body. Cases of infection have been recorded in several European countries – in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, Austria, Sweden and others.
For the first time, the disease in a non-endemic territory was detected in May 2022 in several European and American countries simultaneously, as well as in Australia.
