Russian residents have reduced costs for the funeral of relatives -due to rising ritual services against the war background against Ukraine. In the Russian Federation, demand for cremation is growing because it costs cheaper than burial in the grave, the publication report Kommersant.
In large cities, cremation is now selected in 60-70% of cases. The average cost of service is 19-20 thousand rubles. At the same time, land burial costs at least 10 thousand more expensive.
In October-December 2024, traditional funerals had to spend on average of 25.1 thousand rubles-almost 15% more than 2023.
The casket on average in Russia before the war, in January 2022, costs about 4.4 thousand rubles. Generally, in 2022, the coffin rose 48%, for 2023 by almost 12%, and for 9 months of 2024 by another 10%. In October 2024, according to Rosstat, the average coffin price rose to 7.7 thousand rubles.
The cost of digging the graves also increased: in January 2022, this service cost 7.7 thousand rubles, and in October 2024 – 10 thousand.
The media note that a phenomenon such as “transfer of cremation” has emerged in Russia, when people leave for nearby regions, where this method is cheaper.
