The European Union will consider external assistance programs.
Bloomberg writes about this, reading the draft relevant document.
Thus, they want the distribution of funds to be more consistent with the external policy of the interests of the block in the “difficult international situation”.
This step takes place at a time when the European Commission is a growing list of priorities, including protection, against the background of the war in Ukraine, which lasted the third year – and the hostile position of President Donald Trump in the first weeks of his post, writes Bloomberg.
The block seeks to restructure external assistance to ensure their strategic interests, in particular, we are talking about strengthening alliances with single-minded countries, access to raw materials and limiting migrants.
The European Commission seeks to provide foreign assistance in more favorable conditions, updating it and making it more useful for partners. Ideas about improving their next seven years from 2028 to 2034 will be presented in the next weeks.
The plan of the commission coincides with Trump’s step to eliminate the US agency for international development or USAID, which distributes tens of billions of dollars a year. On the first day, the US president announced the suspension of almost all foreign assistance for 90 days.
