Changes in the policies of entry and the provision of asylum for Russian citizens have led to mass detention of migrants trying to cross the American border.
For months, Russian citizens seeking political asylum in the United States face serious suffering. About this Moscow Times were told by immigration lawyers and asylum seekers themselves.
Many Russians registered in advance of the CBP ONE program, after crossing the border, finding themselves in immigration centers for an uncertain period, waiting for a decision on their business. Earlier, as the lawyers record, it occurred in a completely different way: most Russian applicants who took advantage of the CBP one, after submitting documents, received permission to enter. Some have been placed in content centers in a short time, but most are allowed to remain free, waiting for the consideration of their petitions.
However, since May 2024, the system approach has changed: Russian citizens have begun to be widely sent to restraint centers. According to experts, now at least 900 Russians exploit the CBP one can be arrested. However, the real figure is probably higher.
In 2024, the New York Post reported that US authorities began to deport detainees with the Boundary with Mexico’s illegal migrants from Russia and five more post -Soviet countries. As the newspaper found, according to the internal memorandum, California border services were ordered to let migrants from more than one hundred countries, but the citizens of the Russian Federation, Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan is not included.
Remember that Trump, during his first purity, said the United States did not require migrants from the “dirty hole”.
