The first exhumation of the victims of the tragedy Volon should begin in the spring of 2025.
The month when Ukraine starts work is not yet known. All this will depend on weather conditions. And now work is underway to determine all the places where you can carry out an exhumation – both in Poland and in Ukraine. The Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasil Bodnar said on the air of the Polish TVN24.
First of all, we plan, where there is already permission, that is, in Dusaders. We do not know exactly what month, but we are preparing for the fact that if the weather allows, then all the issues issued and the team from the Polish is also ready to start these works, ”said the diplomat.
It is known that Volyn Tradedy (1942–1944) is a bloody conflict between Ukrainians and Poles. Poland calls this to UPA genocide, “Volyn Difference”, and in Ukraine emphasizes that the responsibility for the massacre of Poles and Ukrainians in Volona – both sides, as well as the administration of the occupation of Nazi Germany and Soviet partisan units.
The number of victims is also called different: from 20 thousand Ukrainians and 35-40 thousand poles in accordance with Ukrainian data and up to 100 thousand Poles and 5 thousand Ukrainians – according to POLIC.
We recall that in November last year, Ukraine and Poland accepted a joint statement on the exhumation of the victims of the tragedy of Volina. It was decided that in the near future Poland and Ukraine would begin the work of a joint working group under the auspices of the ministries of culture of both countries in order to carry out subject work and consent between the parties.
And on January 10 of this year, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Ukraine issued the first permits to exhumation of the bodies of the Poles who died in Volan during the Second World War.
