The Baltic countries were completely synchronized with the European energy system.
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia synchronized their electric networks with Continental Europe on Sunday, February 9, after 14.00. This was stated by Lithuanian President Gitanas Naususna, reports LRT.
A few minutes ago I received excellent news – the synchronization of the Baltic Power system with Continental Europe was successfully completed, ”he said.
According to him, synchronization with the European energy network is a historical point that notes the completion of the long path of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to energy independence. Naususna emphasized that “times of political pressure and blackmail are finally over.”
The European Commission noted that synchronization with the EU energy network has become a significant step towards the energy independence of the Baltic countries after more than twenty years of study. This step provides greater energy security and the ability to use the advantages of the EU combined energy system.
Recall, on February 8, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia disconnected from the energy system of Russia and Belarus. This connection has existed since the time of the USSR, but it has been planned since 2017.
In the summer of 2024, Baltic Energy Ministers confirmed the intentions to synchronize their states with the help of the ENTS-E Continental European Energy System, and in February 2025 it turned off from the Russianity.
