The European Commission has decided not to rush Georgia’s political elite “in its attempt to achieve depolarization,” Michael Rupp explained.
The European Commission has decided to review the reforms undertaken by Georgia to grant the status of a candidate member of the European Union in 2023 instead of December this year. This was stated by EC representative Michael Rupp at a meeting of the European Parliament on Wednesday, July 13.
“Of course, we are very interested in the fact that Georgia is working hard and working hard to implement these priorities. Therefore, after careful discussion, we decided not to rush Georgia’s political elite in its attempt to achieve depolarization, in order to sit at the same negotiating table, and work carefully on reforms, ”Rupp said.
He assured that the European Commission will prepare a report on the ongoing reforms in Georgia in 2023, and the country will have time to prepare.
Recall that on June 17, the European Commission did not recommend granting the status of a candidate for EU accession to Georgia. As a result, a protest was organized in the center of Tbilisi – thousands of people gathered for actions in support of Georgia’s European integration under the slogan Home, to Europe.
Also, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, accused the representative of the Ukrainian people David Arakhamia and the local opposition of the failure of the campaign for obtaining the status of a candidate member of the European Union.
