It is impossible to negotiate with someone who is not yet ready to agree with the Red Cross on humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population, Annalena Burbock insisted.
Currently, there is not even the slightest possibility of conducting any negotiations with Russia, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock is convinced.
“What can be negotiated with someone who is not yet ready to agree with the International Committee of the Red Cross on the creation of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population,” Burbock explained in an interview with German magazine Stern , published on Wednesday, July 13.
At the same time, he rejected the call for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations, which he did in his open letter “Truce Now!” a group of German intellectuals and prominent.
“If I were Ukrainians, I would treat this letter as naive, misleading, arrogant,” said the head of the German Foreign Ministry. “What is the right of the German Foreign Minister to decide specifically for Ukraine, what part of its territory should be surrendered, how many millions of its citizens should submit to Russian domination?” Emphasized by Annalena Burbock.
In addition, he said that since the beginning of the war he had no direct contact with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. I wanted to say: “Come on, Sergey, let’s negotiate peace,” but I doubt that Lavrov still has powers from the Russian leadership, Burbock admitted. “What is the role of the Russian Foreign Minister today in these matters is unknown,” he said.
Last week, the Foreign Ministers of Germany and Russia attended the G20 foreign ministers summit in Bali. However, Lavrov left the hall immediately after his speech, without listening to Burbock’s speech.
