They are directed against the heads of institutions responsible for serious human rights violations and companies in the Belarusian defense sector that support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The UK and Canada have imposed sanctions against six people and three organizations in response to the falsification of presidential elections in Belarus. This was reported by the press service of the UK government on Monday, January 27.
The report noted that the sanctions are aimed at the heads of institutions responsible for serious violations of human rights and companies in the Belarusian defense sector that support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
It was noted that the elections in the Republic of Belarus did not meet international standards and were condemned by international partners.
Sanctions were imposed against the head of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko and representatives of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption and the penitentiary system.
In this regard, the UK rejected Belarusian defense companies – a sector of strategic importance for the Lukashenko regime, which contributes to the Russian war against Ukraine.
The following enterprises were authorized: JSC ALEVKURP – a Belarusian subsidiary specializing in research, development and production of radar systems and weapons control systems, JSC Legmash Plant – a Belarusian enterprise that produces ammunition for Belarusian defense complex, and KB Unmanned Helicopters – a Belarusian manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles.
We remind you that voting took place in the presidential “election” in Belarus on Sunday. Subsequently, the Central Election Commission of Belarus released the preliminary results of the so-called presidential “election.”
Brussels said the vote in Belarus was not free and fair. However, Hungary blocked the European Union’s joint statement.
