The topic of mass deportation of illegal migrants from the United States has become one of the main promises of Donald Trump’s election campaign.
US President Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on all goods from Colombia and sanctions against this country. This is after Bogota a few hours ago refused to accept planes carrying deported migrants from the United States.
“I have just been informed that two repatriation flights from the United States carrying a large number of illegal criminals have been prevented from landing in Colombia. This order was given by the Socialist President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, who is no longer popular with his people,” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
According to the US President, the Petro ban on these flights endangered the national and public security of the United States, and therefore Trump ordered his administration to immediately take some countermeasures. Specifically, the head of the White House:
-
issued an order to impose an emergency 25% tariff on all goods imported into the United States from Colombia. According to Trump, tariffs will be raised to 50% in a week;
-
ordered a travel ban to the United States for Colombian government officials, as well as all allies and supporters. We are talking, in particular, about the immediate revocation of visas;
-
said to impose visa sanctions on all party members, family members and supporters of the Colombian government;
-
implement enhanced customs and border inspections of all Colombian citizens and cargo for reasons of national security;
-
ordered the full implementation of sanctions pursuant to the International Economic Emergency Proclamation (IEEPA), including sanctions on the financial, banking and treasury sectors.
“These steps are just the beginning, we will not allow the government of Colombia to violate its legal obligations to accept and return the criminals they forced to the United States,” Trump concluded.
Let’s remember that the topic of mass deportation of illegal migrants from the United States became one of the main promises of Donald Trump’s election campaign.
