According to him, Saudi Arabia and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) are “to a certain extent responsible” for the continuation of the war in Ukraine. He was also surprised that the country had not done this before.
“I’m going to ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower the price of oil again. I’m surprised they didn’t do it before the election. If the price had gone down, Russia’s war against Ukraine would have ended quickly,” Trump said.
He added that “when oil prices fall, I will demand that interest rates fall immediately, and thus they fall all over the world.”
Earlier, the media reported that the Trump team was preparing oil sanctions against Russia. At the same time, the President of the US the day before spoke to Vladimir Putin with an ultimatum to end the war in Ukraine, otherwise large sanctions will be imposed against Russia.
