Fico repeated accusations, without providing evidence, that there was a group of anonymous “experts” in Slovakia who allegedly “helped with protests” in Ukraine in 2014 and in Georgia last year.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said the government was considering preventive measures to prevent protests from escalating into attempts to “overthrow the government.” According to Reuters, the politician was referring to information from intelligence services that allegedly discovered groups involved in the escalating protests.
Fico also claimed the presence of “experts” who previously acted during protests in Ukraine in 2014 and last year in Georgia.
“The situation is serious that we see a structure that is trying to attack the constitutional structure of the Slovak Republic,” he said after a meeting of the State Security Council.
Main opposition party Slovak ProgressivesI called Fico’s statements “nonsense” and a way to distract attention from the government’s failures.
Foreign Ministry Speaker Georgy Tikhy said that such statements are a form of intimidation in society.
“This is a common fairy tale that has nothing to do with reality. Perhaps Mr. Fico should think about why his actions are causing protests in his own country.”
Tikhy also added that referring to Ukraine in this context seems “outdated” and inappropriate.
Let’s recall that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico complained to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who did not respond to his invitation to meet in Davos and threatened “measures” if supplies of Russian gas has not been restored.
Subsequently, experts in the field of psychiatry and psychology wrote an open letter to Robert Fico, in which they expressed concern about his emotional and psychological state, advising him to correct his political behavior or leave politics altogether.
