Last year, imports of services under the travel item reached $37.8 billion – this is the highest result in the last 11 years.
Russians, despite their country’s growing isolation, are increasing their spending abroad. Last year, imports of services under the travel item reached $37.8 billion. This is the highest result since 2014, when imports reached $50.4 billion. The Moscow Times reports this in connection with information from the Russian Central Bank.
According to this article, the costs of individuals for the purchase of goods and services in other countries for their own needs or free transfers to other people are taken into account. First of all, we are talking about tourism.
According to the Association of Tour Operators of the Russian Federation, Russians took 14 million tourist trips abroad that year, including business tourism – to conferences and exhibitions. This is 17% higher than in 2023. Back then, Russians spent $34.4 billion abroad throughout the year, these expenses increased by 10%.
The majority of sales of foreign tours – 85% – for the year came from five countries: Turkey, Egypt, UAE, Thailand and China.
Other popular destinations for Russians include Cuba, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Maldives and Indonesia.
As we have already written, the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine negatively affects the lives of almost half of the citizens of the Russian Federation – 47.6%. This is confirmed by data from a sociological survey conducted by the Institute of Socio-Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
