The EU’s goal is to ensure that Russia will suffer losses from sanctions and pay an increased price for the war against Ukraine.
The European Commission is closely monitoring that the Russian economy is suffering from the sanctions of the European Union, which ensures that the Russian Federation pays the highest price for all the crimes in Ukraine. This was said by the Speaker of the European Commission, Anita Gipper, in comments to the EP on Thursday, January 23.
The EU’s goal is to ensure that Russia will suffer losses from sanctions and pay an increased price for the war against Ukraine.
“We want to make sure that because of all the sanctions, the most severe sanctions, Russia pays – for all the crimes, for all the actions, we are analyzing how we can hurt Russia and pay more, ” said Gipper.
The spokesman also denies claims about the alleged impotence of the Russian economy to EU sanctions.
“The narrative that Russia is strong doesn’t work. We just saw that in Syria. So we have to continue, and that’s what we’re focusing on,” she explained.
At the same time, Gipper left without comment the question of whether the EU has a “Plan B” in case the sanctions against Russia are not extended for the next six months due to a possible veto by Hungary.
The media reported that the EU began to look for options to avoid Hungary’s possible veto on the extension of the sanctions.
