Ukraine must maintain a strong army, and Western countries will equip it, the chancellor said.
Western countries will soon discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in an interview with the Funke media group, published on Wednesday, January 22.
“For starters, let the war in Ukraine end. But even then we are still obliged to ensure a safe future for Ukraine. Then it will be possible to discuss security guarantees,” said Scholz.
He noted that in the future the discussion will be about how Ukraine can maintain a strong army, that “we are all together.”
“In the near future, this issue will be discussed with our allies, however, now we cannot think about it and no one can decide on the heads of the Ukrainians and still far away,” concluded the German Chancellor.
Let us remind you that Ukraine needs at least 200 thousand European peacekeepers. President Vladimir Zelensky said this. And this is only part of the security guarantees that Ukraine needs.
Earlier, Zelensky said that Ukraine was discussing the issues of sending peacekeepers with partners. At the same time, Kyiv will not consider any security guarantees without the United States.
